Surgical correction to the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine may be required for certain diagnosed medical conditions. Examples may include arthritis, bulging or herniated discs, fractures, instability, and trauma.

            Different approaches are used for surgical correction, anterior and/or posterior, and transpediclular. Looking at a healthy disc and comparing it to a disc bulge or disc herniation pressure can be seen against the nerve. Surgical corrections could involve a laminectomy, a fusion utilizing screws with a plate, cages or rods may be necessary.
