About Gamma Knife

Gamma Knife is not a knife at all, but an incision-free technology that treats specific brain conditions with precisely targeted, pain-free radiation.

These treatments are typically given on an outpatient basis on a single day without general anesthesia, so patients experience little to no discomfort and resume normal activities almost immediately.

This radiosurgery technology provides improved outcomes and a better overall patient experience by preventing or delaying the need for traditional, riskier and potentially less-effective procedures, such as intracranial surgery and whole-brain radiation.

Gamma Knife

Patient Eligibility

Gamma Knife can complement surgery or be used as an alternative to conventional brain surgery. It’s particularly suited for patients who are unable to tolerate conventional surgery or general anesthesia.

The PeaceHealth Gamma Knife Center is the only site in Lane County and one of only three sites in Oregon to offer this technology. To learn more, please contact us.
